Chalkboard Remote Tray | Girl, Get Your Life!

Asset 2

If you're sick of your roommates or siblings (or self...) walking away with the TV remote and losing it, we've got a solution for you. Today, I'm showing you how to make a chic chalkboard remote tray that will keep your Netflix-binge necessities all in one place.

My biggest overall advice for keeping track of things is to have a visible, easily accessible place where you know that stuff goes. Like this awesome DIY leather pouch catch-all I made for my entryway! “A place for everything and everything in its place” am I right?? Same goes for the remotes. Let’s get started!

Step 1: Start with a clean tray. I used a cool bamboo one I found at the store, but any wood or even metal or plastic would work! Line the outer “walls” of your tray with painter’s tape. You want those to stay clean and paint-free.

Step 2: Paint the surface of your tray with an even coat of chalkboard paint. You can use paint you brush on, or you can use spray paint. Just make sure it’s the right kind of paint for the surface you’re painting. Paint a thick enough layer so you can’t see the surface of the tray beneath. Allow time to dry.

Step 3: Remove your painter’s tape, and outline your remote (or whatever else you want on the tray) on the tray’s base using chalk or a chalk paint pen. It’s like a visual puzzle piece you can’t help but put together! Plus you can immediately tell if it’s missing; I see you, kiddos! Add a little label for each and maybe even a little love note to those who might need an extra reminder to put the remotes back on the tray.

Add coasters, a candle, or other decor items to complete the look! So cute, and so easy to wrangle those remotes!
