As an only child who had to entertain herself a lot, Kelsey has always been a DIY fanatic! She grew up half beach bum in San Diego, CA, and half country bumpkin in Colorado Springs, CO. When she's not living the dream DIY-ing with Makeful, you can see her pop up on TV once in awhile on shows like 'Modern Family' and 'New Girl'!
Wake up and smell the coffee scrub! If you're looking for an easy and affordable gift for the mama in your life this Mother's Day, we've got you covered. Give mom the pampering she deserves with this invigorating diy beauty treatment. Ditch the basic sugar scrub from the drug store and treat her to a natural antioxidant and anti-inflammatory skin treatment with coffee grounds. With this easy scrub recipe, the coffee and sugar will exfoliate your skin, while the shea butter and coconut oil work to moisturize. You'll leave your shower feeling refreshed and ready to take on the day just like you had a cup of Joe.
- 1/4 cup shea butter
- 1/2 cup coconut oil
- 1 1/4 cup coffee
- 1 cup sugar, brown or white is okay as long as it's granulated
Nothing like starting the day with a decadent at-home beauty treatment. This coffee body scrub smells fantastic, exfoliates and moisturizes as it works, and feels amazing on your skin! Make one for you and one for mom this Mother's Day to pamper and treat yourselves to an easy beauty DIY that'll make you feel like you just left the spa.
Step 1: Gather your ingredients. You'll be using coffee grounds for exfoliation and skin firming, sugar for a finer grain scrub, and shea butter and coconut oil for moisture. You can find all these ingredients at your local health food or grocery store! If you can't find shea butter at the store, you can easily purchase some online for very cheap. We recommend also having an air tight lid handy for when you're finished with the mixture to keep air out and moisture in!
Step 2: Add your dry ingredients to a large bowl. Mix together until totally combined, otherwise, you can get clumps of sugar that stick together in a goopey mess. No fun.
Step 3: Melt the shea butter and coconut oil over low heat (or in the microwave on low for about 20 seconds). Stir in both to your coffee and sugar mixture until totally combined. Don't overheat the oil in this step or you run the risk of actually melting the sugar as you stir which defeats the whole fine grain scrubbing purpose.
Step 4: When your ingredients are thoroughly mixed, spoon the mixture into your jars! You can find simple jars like this at Ikea or the Container Store, or you can upcycle an old jam jar or mason jar. Just make sure it's clean and as airtight as possible! If you really wanna get fancy you can print out your own labels.
And voilá! A gorgeous gift for mom, or anyone on your list, that will make them feel pampered and fabulous. Be sure to make enough for yourself, too!
