We love any beauty DIY that leaves us feeling fresh. With this quick and easy sugar scrub, you’re set to exfoliate away old skin cells and moisturize your lips with nourishing coconut oil. Add a bit of peppermint essential oil for a minty fresh taste as well as a slight tingling sensation. Mmmmmm…

Step 1: Melt the coconut oil. You can do this either by taking the lid off and putting the glass jar in the microwave for about 30 seconds, or you can immerse the jar in a saucepan of heated water until it melts through. If you’re doing the stovetop method, don’t put the pot on too high of heat or the glass jar may crack. Keep in mind that you are heating up oil.

Step 2: After pouring in our 16 oz. jar of coconut oil to the bowl, it’s time to add sugar! For this recipe we added two cups of sugar, stirring to combine, but not enough to melt the sugar. However, you are more than welcome to add more sugar, depending on how grainy you want your scrub to be.

Step 3: Now for the peppermint oil! Essential oils are a totally amazing way to add an intense scent to almost anything, and we love the tingly feeling that peppermint oil gives our skin. We added about 20-25 drops of oil to our scrub, but you can adjust depending on how strong a mint flavor you want to create. Be sure the oil you buy is food grade; they usually carry it at your local grocery or health food store.

Step 4: Finally, chop or tear some fresh mint leaves and add them to the mixture. They give the scrub a really pretty pop of bright green color and introduce a natural element that we totally love. Save a couple of whole leaves for the end product.

Step 5: Time to bottle this baby! Divide the sugar scrub evenly into however many containers you have. You’ll have about 3 cups, or 24 oz, once all the ingredients are combined. Top each jar with a whole leaf to add a dash of chic, especially if you’re planning to give them away as gifts!

Keep a jar in your bathroom anytime you feel like kicking back and treating yourself to a mini at-home spa day! Your kisser thanks you. Smooches!
