Organize The KonMari Way | Girl Get Your Life

Asset 2

On this week's episode of Girl, Get Your Life, I'm helping out Nicole who needs some serious help with making sure her boyfriend and his conflict with her clothes drive her crazy. Don't fret Nicole - thanks to our good friend Marie Kondo, you won't have to worry anymore.

You may or may not have heard of the Marie Kondo (or KonMari) method. If you’re new to the game, Marie Kondo is a world-renowed organization master that has made people all around the world tackle organizing their homes in a whole new way. Her New York Times Best Seller “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up” and the illustrated companion “Spark Joy: An Illustrated Master Class on The Art of Organizing and Tidying Up” have not only helped people get rid of the clutter in their lives or organize their belongings, but it has also helped them find more peace in their homes without the feeling stressed about constantly having to tidy up.

This is where I knew that the KonMari method would help Nicole and her boyfriend 100%. Since Nicole’s boyfriend kept complaining about her clothes spilling out of their dresser, we had to find a way where she would be able to organize her clothes without disturbing her boyfriend’s clothes.

The one key to organizing your drawer the Marie Kondo (or KonMari) way is to take your clothes and fold them in a uniform way that’s compact and will allow you to essentially file them neatly in your drawer.

With your short sleeve shirts, you will first want to lay it down on a flat surface, you want to fold it in once from one sleeve, and then fold the other side to make one long rectangle. After that, you will want to fold the rectangle into thirds. Once all your clothes are floded this way, you will want to stack them up and place them into your drawer standing up. Not only does this method keep your clothes organized and mess free, but it also helps maximize the space in your drawer and helps you see all of your t-shirts without having to move all your clothes around!

Another great method is by using the folding method and organizing your clothes in shoe boxes to place inside your drawer, to create a divider so it doesn’t get mixed up with your boyfriend’s clothes. Easy peasy!

And that’s one way that you can apply the Marie Kondo method to your home! There are many more ways you can apply her methods to your home, and you can learn all of that in “The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up”. Read it, apply it, and say goodbye to your drawer drama with your boyfriend!
