It’s the time of year when we’re encouraged to hit the stores in search of the best card for our valentine. But plucking a random card from a shelf with a strangers design and words doesn't always feel authentic—or dare we say—romantic! This year, use our DIY Valentine’s Day card tutorial to create something straight from the heart.
Materials
- White Card Stock 8.5” x 11”
- Foam core board
- Baker’s twine (or string)
- Tapestry needle
- Pencil & eraser
- Push pin
- tape
Instructions:
- Cut 8.5” x 11” sheet of cardstock in half to make it 8.5” x 5.5”.
- Carefully fold in half to form a square 4.25” x 4.25” card.
- Draw a heart shape on the front of your card.
- Along the edge of the heart outline, draw dots about .25” apart.
- Draw a dot in the center of the heart.
- Using your push pin, form a small hole through the cardstock in each of the dots you’ve drawn. Use a piece of foam core to help form the small holes. Be sure not to go through two layers of the cardstock. You only want to go through one layer, the front of your card.
- Unravel your string so it’s easier to work with and weave it onto a tapestry needle.
- Poke the needle through the center hole in the heart, and tape one end of your string on the inside of your card.
- Starting from the top center dot, using your tapestry needle, weave the string through each dot and then through the center. Repeating until you’ve gone all the way around the heart.
- Once you’ve gone all the way around the heart and returned to where you started, carefully tuck the other end of string underneath other string on the inside of the card and secure it with tape.
- Write a cute message inside for the lucky recipient!
