How To Oven Bake Potatoes Three Ways

We don't want to say it out loud — but sometimes potatoes can be bland and uninspiring. It doesn't have to be that way! Step away from regular mash, boring baked and straight up fries with some easy twists on what you already know how to do. We've put together these three amazing recipes for crispy curly fries, a baked potato/potato chip hybrid, and mini cheesy potato rosettes. Are you drooling yet?

For our first two recipes, we used an awesome tool called a spiralizer. They’re not that expensive (about $20 bucks on Amazon) and you can make SO many awesome things with it (zucchini noodles, anyone?). See how we used two of the three blades to help us whip up our tasty taters!

Crispy Spiral Sweet Potatoes

1. For this recipe, we used the medium grater setting on the spiralizer. To use, cut the ends off of a washed potato. Place one end on the grater, and attach the other end to the crank. Then simply turn the crank until the entire potato is a glorious helping of curly carbs!

2. Season the raw curly potatoes with garlic salt and pepper and toss with a tiny bit of oil. Spread the potatoes on a cookie sheet and broil for 5-10 minutes at 350º on a conventional oven is. The longer you leave them, the crispier they will be. But do be careful not to pass the point of no return or they might burn!

3. Top with Parmigiano cheese, herbs, or other spices. We especially like these with cajun seasoning for a curly-fry-like flavor!

Hybrid Baked-Potato-Chip

1. For this delicious twist on a baked potato, we used the largest grater on the spiralizer. It looks like one long sliver instead of multiple holes. Cut the ends off the washed potato and attach it to the spiralizer. Turn that crank and you get those thin, flat curly cues like they have at the state fair!

2. When your whole potato is grated, Begin to gather the curls onto a kabob skewer. Separate the folds of the “chips” a bit so they cook all around.

3. Brush the whole potato with a little oil and season with salt and pepper, making sure you get in all the creases. Bake in the oven at 350° for about 15-20 minutes in an conventional oven. When the whole thing is done, you’ll have a delicious hybrid between a baked potato and potato chips!

4. Top like a baked potato with sour cream and chives. Or melty cheddar cheese…mmmm, potato.

Potato Gratin Rosettes

1. Now for the fanciest potato on the menu! To start, cut each potato into even round slices about 1/8 inch thick.

2. Melt butter and add rosemary, salt, pepper, cayenne and parmigian cheese. Generously coat each potato slice in this mixture.

3. Spray a cupcake or muffin tin with non-stick baking spray. Then arrange the potato slices in the cups, starting with the largest pieces and working inwards towards the smallest “petal”.

4. Bake the roses for 45-60 minutes at 400° until done! You can serve in small dishes if you want to maintain the round look, or you can lay them on a plate for a more “bloomed” look.
