This Candle’s On Fire

Ok. This one is super quick and would make a great gift or last minute party decoration. Simply take a candle - either LED or real - and "paint" on the lyrics of your favorite flame-related tune. After trial and error, we discovered that what worked best was an actual paint pen, not a metallic marker.

Materials
  • gold paint pen
  • pillar candle
  • mod podge
  • gold glitter

We found it was easier to lightly (pressure-wise) brush the words on rather than put the pen tip straight on the candle and write from that angle. The candles – even the LED version – have a wax coating that seemed to make writing on it tricky.

Again, we had the best luck with the paint pen.

For this project, we went with Alicia Keys’ infamous line, but the possibilities are endless.

Step 1: Choose and write your song lyrics on your candle keeping it towards the top half of the pillar, leaving room for glitter on the base.

Step 2: Brush a light, even coat of mod podge onto the base of your candle, keeping in mind that anywhere the podge goes, the glitter will stick- so don’t cover up those lyrics!

Step 3: While the mod podge is still wet, dust an even coat of glitter onto the candle. Let dry for a few minutes then shake off any glitter that may not have fully stuck on.

And there you have it! A beautiful and personal decor piece that will have your guests saying “goodness gracious, great balls of fire!” Or, you know, something equally nerdy…
