DIY Chic Clay Marble Coasters

There's no doubt about it: marble decor is gorgeous, upscale, and chic. However, actual marble can cost a very pretty penny. This easy DIY project uses clay and cookie cutters to make faux marble coasters that'll make even you do a double take! It's a great, easy way to add a dash of marble to your decor without breaking the bank.

Marble is having a serious moment in every element of design right now from coffee tablesto pottery, to home decor items, and even to wallpaper! We love finding new ways to incorporate faux marble into our home, so when we learned how to use clay to make some faux marble coasters, we jumped right in!

Step 1: Smoosh a few pieces of black clay inside a long piece of white clay. Fold the clay over on itself and twist the whole piece until it’s soft and pliable. The more you twist and blend the pieces together, the grayer and less defined the marble details will be. When you’ve combined to your desired color, roll the whole thing up into a ball.

Step 2: Place the ball of clay on a piece of parchment paper and cover with another sheet. Use a rolling pin to flatten the ball into a flat, even layer of clay.

Step 3: Peel back the top paper and use a cookie cutter to press and cut out the shape of your coaster. Use a knife to remove any stray pieces of clay around the edges. You can also use a ruler and straight edge if you don’t have a cookie cutter in the shape you want.

Step 4: Bake clay according to package instructions. When finished, you can speed up setting the clay by popping it in the fridge for a few minutes. When the clay has cooled, use the shapes to trace the coasters onto a piece of felt. Cut out the shapes slightly on the inside of the line so it’s smaller than the piece of clay. Use a hot glue gun to attach the felt to the back of the coaster.

Grab a glass of bubbly and celebrate your beautiful new marble coasters! We love that ours are all different sizes, but you can make yours all one shape if you prefer a more streamlined look. Another way to customize? Switch up the colors! Who says you have to make it gray marble? If pink is your thing, go for it! The possibilities are endless.
