DIY Minimal Copper Pipe Clothes Rack

I have been wanting to jump on the capsule wardrobe bandwagon for months. But it’s just so easy to get lazy when all my clothes and shoes are stuffed away in my cluttered, messy, teensy weensy closet. Out of sight, out of mind, right? But now that I’ve made this stunning copper clothing rack, my minimalist capsule wardrobe of my spring cleaning dreams- OK, summer cleaning dreams- might actually happen! Now I won’t have to worry about a clothing avalanche every time I open the closet, and I get to admire this awesomely chic new display for the stuff I really love.

Step 1: Begin by cutting all the pieces of copper that you will need. The most helpful guide to creating this copper rack is this printable that indicates all the pieces that you will need to cut using copper pipe and a pipe cutter. Once you have cut all your pieces, organize them in the order you will assemble them.

Step 2: Start off by assembling your base. Keep in mind that one of the most important things when putting this rack together is to make sure all the angles are correct. Superglue dries almost instantly, so when putting pieces together it’s helpful to use the floor or table surface to guide you as you go. Start with two T-brackets and stick two 4-inch pieces on either size of the T. Then, attach a T bracket to each end facing at a 90 degree angle away from the first T-bracket in the center. Create two of these pieces and secure them with super glue when attaching them together.

Step 3: Lie the two pieces next to each other, making sure the open hole center of each T is facing upwards. Add two more 4 inch pipes on either side of each piece. Finally, add 2 elbows on each end with the bend facing down, and another 4 inch pipe for the leg. Cap it off with a popper pipe cap.

Step 4: With your two base ends on the ground, lay two 3-ft long pipes between them, matching the pipes with the open holes in your T-brackets. Glue one side first, and then the other so that you can almost snap the second side of the base on.

Step 5: Last but not least, make a U-shape with your remaining pieces; this will be the top part where you will hang your clothes. Lay 4 feet pipes parallel to each other on the floor, and attach two elbows on each of them facing inward towards each other. Then glue the 3 foot pipe in between them and attach them to each of the elbows. Glue the u-shaped piece into the open T-bracket holes of your base. You might want a friend to help with this last part to make sure it’s nice and even!

I can’t stop staring at my gorgeous new design addition! It’s such a space saver and it keeps me honest for the next time I go shopping for new stuff by reminding me to invest in the pieces I really want rather than just the latest trends.
