So, you’re throwin’ a party Saturday night (because why not?) and you wanna get the word out on social media in a unique, cool way. Using a flatlay photo technique is a super eye-catching way to show off what’s in store for your guests.

There are a few key elements to making an awesome flatlay. Color, texture, height and composition. We’re gonna show you step by step how to make your own!

Step 1: Pick your theme. In this case, we’re throwin’ a party (you’re invited, obvi).

Step 2: Add some pops of color! We used these fun polka dot napkins and bright gummies. Yum!

Step 3: Next you wanna add some texture. Popcorn brings in another fun food element and these festive poms bring some more life to the picture party!

Step 4: Lastly, add a few objects with height to add some different levels and places for the eye to go.

Step 5: Use a chair or stepping stool to get additional height for better results. Hold your camera parallel to the flat surface. Take several photos as it may take you a while to get the composition you are looking for. Be sure to make changes to your set up if you discover there is something missing in the frame or that something looks better at another angle.

And there ya have it! The perfect formula for a picture-perfect flatlay every time, no matter what the occasion. We’d love to see what you come up with! Tag us on Instagram @bemakeful and use #bemakeful and show us whatcha got!
