File this story under: people you never thought would hang out.

According to a set of selfies that showed up on Taylor Swift’s Instagram, Adele and JK Rowling were recently backstage at her concert, and there were hangs.

The photos surprised and delighted the stars’ respective fans. After all, we don’t exactly think of these women as travelling in the same circles. They seem more likely to show up as an answer to the question “if you could have dinner with any three living people, who would it be?”

T-Swift posted a selfie each with Adele and Rowling, captioning the post, “I’m so grateful for these women, for the words they’ve written and the worlds they’ve created through their art.. so stoked to have you at the show in London @adele and JK ❤. Always.”

Of course, as musicians, Adele and Taylor probably often end up at the same functions, so it was Harry Potter author Rowling who created the biggest stir. In response, Harry Potter fans immediately began speculating wildly about what the Sorting Hat would have said after hearing the name “Swift, Taylor.”

But while some Potterheads were creating elaborate fan theories, others (Hufflepuffs?) simply had to scream out their feelings.

Adele’s presence at the show was less surprising, but it nevertheless sent an important message. By showing up, Adele showed her solidarity with Swift, who she’s battled with for spots at the top of the charts. As women in the spotlight, Taylor and Adele have both faced heavy public scrutiny for their personal and professional lives, and for them to reaffirm their love and support for one another shows they’re willing to rise above the usual pettiness of the entertainment business.

The only question that remains is: what would the three have talked about? The pressures of fame? How “Shake It Off” would have made the perfect Harry Potter power anthem? Future collaborations?

We’ll never know for sure, but we do know that there was a critical mass of girl power backstage that night.

Adele and Rowling aren’t the only celebrities to show up at Taylor’s “Reputation” tour. People magazine did a roundup of stars spotted at the shows, including everyone from Backstreet Boy AJ McLean to Bill Nye the Science Guy to — perhaps the weirdest celebrity combo of all — Julia Roberts, Amber Rose, and Rebel Wilson.
